BROOKLYN, N.Y. — St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) Department of Athletics has announced the hiring of Haylie McNerny as the department's new athletic trainer.
"We are thrilled to welcome Haylie to the Bears family as our new Assistant Athletic Trainer. Haylie's commitment to the holistic student-athlete experience stood out throughout the interview process," commented Interim Director of Athletics and Recreation Jill Conroy. "With her clinical experience and passion for supporting student-athletes we are excited for the impact she will have on our programs and the relationships she will build with our student-athletes, coaches and staff."
McNerny arrives at Clinton Hill after serving as a certified athletic trainer at Division I Rider University in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. During her time with the Broncs, she directed all medical care for the women's soccer and women's lacrosse programs, overseeing injury evaluation, emergency response, rehabilitation planning, and participation clearance. She also managed complex post-operative cases and collaborated closely with team physicians, strength staff, and coaches to align medical decisions with performance demands.
"I'm really excited to join the St. Joseph's University Brooklyn community and start this next chapter," remarked McNerny. "I'm looking forward to getting to know the student-athletes, coaches, and staff, building meaningful relationships, becoming part of the Bears community while making a positive impact along the way."
Prior to her stint at Rider, McNerny accumulated significant clinical experience across multiple collegiate levels. She assisted with high-volume preseason care for the Division I Monmouth University football team, focusing on environmental risk reduction, heat acclimatization support, and hydration oversight. Additionally, her clinical rotations included supporting the baseball and women's soccer teams at West Chester University, as well as spring sports at Arcadia University, where she emphasized lower-extremity rehab, manual strategies, and progressive return-to-activity planning.
On the prep level, McNerny managed sideline assessments and follow-up progressions for multi-sport athletes at West Chester East High School. She also brings per diem experience from the Apex Boys Autumn Lacrosse Tournament, where she independently managed on-field assessment, concussions, and acute musculoskeletal injuries.
Deeply committed to community healthcare, McNerny has volunteered her time with the Special Olympics, West Chester University's General Medicine Clinic, Student Health Services, and Community Volunteers in Medicine (CVIM), where she worked alongside translators to support rehabilitation instruction in underserved environments.
The Keyport, New Jersey native earned her Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine magna cum laude from West Chester University of Pennsylvania in December 2023, where she was a consistent Dean's List selection. She remained at West Chester to complete her Master of Science in Athletic Training in May 2025. McNerny is a Board of Certification (BOC) certified athletic trainer and holds professional certifications in Emergency Care and Safety (ECSI), Mental Health First Aid, and HIPAA/FERPA training. She maintains active membership with the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA).
